The Challenge
For millions of people living in remote villages and underserved areas, consulting a doctor is a trial in itself. Navigating illness while also travelling a long distance to a clinic in the nearest village or city stresses people in these areas. Distance adds to their woes, and any delay in treatment can prove fatal. Small health problems often grow into serious ones for this reason. In cities the opposite problem appears. Hospitals and clinics are overcrowded, so even a routine consultation can take days to arrange.
The client believed the issue was access, not a shortage of medical knowledge. Fixing it needed more than a video call tool. The team had to build a complete digital healthcare platform where a patient could consult a doctor, get tested, receive medicine and find emergency support without leaving home.
Infrastructure added another layer of difficulty. Many target areas have weak internet, so the app had to stay usable on low bandwidth while still delivering real-time health data, reminders and emergency alerts. It also had to scale across regions and stay simple enough for patients and healthcare professionals alike.
Our Approach
We worked with our local partner for the telemedicine platform development. Working closely with the client team, we defined the scope, designed the experience for each type of user, and built the application and backend behind it. Our wider digital transformation services shaped how the pieces fit together.
Three principles guided the build:
- Built for low bandwidth. Video consultations run on as little as 256 kbps, and text chats need only 32 kbps, so care is not limited to well-connected areas.
- Care that travels. A mobile clinic unit carries a nurse, lab testing and medicines to the patient, so the app is not the only point of contact.
- Emergency readiness. A built-in blood donor network and instant notifications make the app useful in urgent moments, not only for planned visits.
Consult, Care, Test, Pay
This virtual healthcare platform covers the full patient journey, from the first booking to the final payment.
Consult
Real-time doctor consultations. Patients speak with doctors through video, audio or chat, depending on what their connection allows. This is the core of any telehealth app development project, and here it was tuned for the weakest networks first.
Provider listings. Patients can open detailed profiles of healthcare providers, including location, distance and profession, so they can choose with confidence.
Care
Nursing on board. The mobile clinic carries a nurse who provides emergency aid and basic healthcare as the unit moves through urban and rural areas.
Service scheduling. Patients choose a service category, set a start date, preferred time and location, and confirm the booking. Options such as Change Address and Confirm Booking keep updates quick and simple.
Real-time notifications. Patients receive alerts about orders, bookings, updates and general health information, which keeps everyone informed without phone calls.
Test
On-site lab testing. The Virtual Clinic runs lab tests at the patient's location, and results arrive electronically in the app. There is no need to travel to a lab or wait for a printed report.
Medicine supply. Patients order medicines in the app, and the mobile clinic handles the delivery.
Blood donor network. Donors register with their blood type, last donation date and current availability. In an emergency, users search for donors by blood type and connect with the nearest match quickly.
Pay
Secure payments. CC Avenue is integrated as the payment gateway, giving patients a reliable and familiar way to pay for healthcare services directly in the app.
Event management tools. Administrators can run health campaigns and special initiatives with customizable banners and buttons inside the app.
