Digital Commerce

B2B commerce is not B2C commerce with a login wall

Retrofitting a consumer storefront with an account requirement misses what B2B buyers actually need.

Many B2B commerce projects start by copying B2C patterns and adding an account requirement. That approach misses what B2B buyers actually need: contract-specific pricing, multi-user account hierarchies, quote-to-order workflows, and punch-out integration with their own procurement systems.

Designing for these needs from the start — rather than retrofitting them onto a consumer storefront — is usually the difference between a B2B commerce platform buyers adopt and one they route around.

It's also worth deciding early whether B2B and B2C need to share one platform. Magento supports both models together, which suits retailers serving enterprise and consumer buyers from a single catalog — but it's a deliberate architectural choice, not a default.
